Commitment

Is he afraid of commitment?

Commitment anxiety is one possible explanation for ambivalence, but it should not become a story that excuses indefinite uncertainty. Focus on what the person is actually willing to build with you.

Look for alignment

Commitment is clearer when words, plans and behavior point in the same direction. Future talk without follow-through is different from concrete, repeated investment.

Ask instead of auditioning

Trying to become impossible to leave can keep you focused on performance rather than compatibility. It is reasonable to ask what someone wants and decide whether their answer matches your goals.

When more support makes sense

If the situation involves fear, coercion, abuse, threats, addiction, severe distress or a mental-health crisis, general relationship content is not enough. Consider appropriate professional or emergency support for your location.
